DryCal technology was created by Bios because there was a need in the market place to eliminate messy soap bubble meters which did not ensure accuracy or traceability of their measurements. Bios patented DryCal® technology which uses a nearly-frictionless graphite composite piston housed within a flow measuring cell of precisely quantified dimensions.
Bios originally designed our primary gas flow standards for industrial hygiene applications requiring volumetric, NIST-traceable calibrations of air sampling pumps to within ±1% of reading accuracy. The Bios dry calibrators were the first for the market, and were welcomed by industry professionals not only for their revolutionary, liquid-free convenience, but their accuracy, speed and push-button ease-of-use.
Getting accurate gas readings can be very difficult and problematic when not using DryCal®. Gas humidity and gas temperature can degrade the accuracy of many commonly used instruments.
Many other gas flow meters measure flow through indirect means of either a pressure drop across some sort of flow restriction or through the transfer of heat from the gas flow.
Many of these instruments also take reading indirectly and can involve very messy bubbles.
When using this proprietary DryCal® technology, meters directly measure gas flow in a different more efficient way. Bios’ DryCal® technology measures gas flow directly by using a precisely known volume, the measurement cell, and the measurement from an internal clock that is triggered by optical detectors detecting the movement of the piston in the measurement cell. Please keep in mind gas flow is defined as the volume of gas per unit time. It is difficult to measure. Bios created this technology for more efficiency and accuracy.
Because Bios flow meters measure gas flow directly with volume and time, they are largely immune to the affects of the gas species being measured. Gas humidity and gas temperature can degrade the accuracy of other instruments. Also, while some other instruments equipment ratings are given as percent of full scale, Bios equipment ratings are given as percent of reading. The DryCal is reliable, convenient, and extremely clean. Our system has several unique attributes that not only set it apart from other piston provers, but from other gas flow measurement standards in general.
